In this post, we will look at a positive/negative essay example from the IELTS writing task 2 test. Students often ask if the questions are repeated year after year and the answer is no, but the topics are. There are so many questions written each year, you may find your practice answering various questions on different topics. For example, you could write essays to answer questions about education or the environment, which benefits you because you learn vocabulary associated with those topics and develop ideas that can help you in your writing test.
Practising writing IELTS task 2 essays on a range of topics is a great way to learn new vocabulary for those topics, but also to practice your essay structures. You begin to develop your ideas around those topics, thinking of examples and giving your opinions.

Some youths today choose to listen to songs on the radio instead of hearing news reports. This essay believes that this is an unfavourable way to use the radio. Firstly this essay will discuss the values of being updated with current events and secondly, the advantages of listening to music.
On the one hand, listening to radio programs normally include both music and news bulletins at intervals. To be informed about the latest happenings around the world is a must since this could affect us in one way or another. Young people from different walks of life should embrace listening to the news as well as enjoying music when studying or relaxing, as this should motivate young people to get involved with issues raised daily in the news. For instance, a survey conducted by the University of the Philippines in 2014 revealed that 90% of college students want to join organizations that can help make a difference in society, like getting involved in politics or the environment.
On the other hand, being a music lover can also be beneficial. Listening to music can help one relax and can relieve stress that can affect even the youngest minds. Music can cause relaxing stimuli that can encourage normal breathing patterns and assist in concentration. Listening to calming melodies can also aid in battling depression mostly in young adults for they can relate to song lyrics that can inspire them to win the battle of downheartedness. For example, a study by the Humane Psychology Society of the Philippines in 2013 discovered that by engaging through music therapy many teenagers who experienced trauma were able to survive the struggle of sadness.
In conclusion, in my view it is important to be updated about the events around the globe and it is important for young people, so that they understand what is happening in the world. This can also push them to become involved in politics, economics or helping the environment.
