Write to the singer about his/her performance: Semi-Formal Letter [IELTS General Writing Task 1 ]

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

You recently went to a concert and thought one of the singers was very good. You want to tell him/her how you feel.

Write a letter to the singer. In your letter:

  • say how you feel about his/her performance
  • give details of your music-related/musical activities
  • explain how you would like him/her to help you with your music-related/musical activities

Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Vocabulary:

  1. Enthralling (adjective) – Capturing and holding one’s attention; fascinating.
  • Example: The singer’s performance was enthralling and kept the audience engaged throughout.
  1. Talent (noun) – Natural aptitude or skill.
  • Example: She showcased her talent during the live performance.
  1. Mentor (noun/verb) – An experienced and trusted adviser or to advise or train someone.
  • Example: I am seeking someone to mentor me in my musical pursuits.

Sample Letter:

Dear [Singer’s Name, e.g., Emma],

I recently had the pleasure of attending your concert at the [City Auditorium], and I must express how deeply moved and impressed I was by your performance. The passion and talent with which you delivered each song were truly enthralling. It was evident that you poured your heart and soul into every note.

I have always been passionate about music and have been involved in several music-related activities throughout my life. Currently, I am a part of a local band where I play the keyboard and assist in vocals. We perform at local venues and charity events. Music has always been a means of expression for me, and witnessing performances like yours only fuels my passion further.

Given your expertise and the emotion you bring to your music, I would be incredibly honored if you might consider providing some guidance or tips to improve my vocal skills. Your insights would be invaluable in enhancing my understanding and technique. If it’s not too much to ask, maybe we could arrange a short meeting or even an online conversation?
