Writing Task 1: How to Solve

Model Answer:

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Patterson,

Firstly, I’d like to sincerely apologize for the disturbance caused by the noise from my flat over the past few days. I deeply regret any inconvenience and discomfort it may have brought you.

To shed some light on the reasons behind the elevated noise levels, I’ve been renovating my living room and kitchen, which unfortunately has involved a good deal of drilling and hammering. I understand that the sound must be disruptive, especially during the daytime. I had hoped the work would be completed more swiftly and with less noise; however, some unexpected issues arose that prolonged the process and increased the noise.

Recognizing the inconvenience this must have caused you, I will take measures to ensure a quieter environment. I’ve requested the workers to limit the most disruptive tasks to mid-morning, avoiding early morning and late evening hours. I’ve also inquired about using quieter tools or methods where possible. The renovations are expected to be finished by the end of this week, so the noise will soon be a thing of the past.

Once again, please accept my sincerest apologies for the inconvenience caused. I genuinely value the harmony and good relations among our neighbours and will strive to maintain them.

Thank you for your understanding, and please do let me know if there are any further concerns.

Warm regards,
[Your Name]
